The Friedrich Schiller University Jena has outlined its strategic focus in its institutional profile reflected by the triad LIGHT – LIFE – LIBERTY. Jena has unique historical roots as the "cradle of optics" unmistakably bound to the names of Carl Zeiss, Ernst Abbe, and Otto Schott and their scientific and entrepreneurial achievements at the beginning of the 20th century. Committed to this unique tradition, FSU culminates today in a world-recognized expertise in the design, modelling, and experimental investigation of light-matter interaction at all scales, from space telescopes down to the nano- and atomic scale. Nowadays, the city of Jena is probably one of the strongest and innovative photonics clusters in the world. At the academic sector, this heritage is institutionally concentrated and represented by the Abbe Center of Photonics (ACP, www.acp.uni-jena.de), offering its scientists a one-of-a-kind research infrastructure and scientific environment.
At ACP, the development and promotion of quantum photonics and quantum technologies have become a major field of research and education. ACP‘s strength lies in its demonstrated ability to fuse multiple expertises to integrate enabling technologies into a combined research effort to open up new platforms exploiting quantum photonics.
